Mechanicsburg Mystery Open-Mic Afternoon Event
(Not to be confused with “Dog Day Afternoon,” which is an old movie. Ask your grandparents about it.)
Sunday, Deb Beamer opened the doors of Mechanicsburg Mystery for an event that introduced attendees to seven authors, including our own Odessa Moon.
Each author talked about their books, read an excerpt, and answered questions. It was a great way to get to know the authors and pick up a few Christmas presents, because who wouldn’t appreciate a signed book?
Deb opened the event with Jenny Allen, left, who writes supernatural thrillers, of which the first is “Blood Lily.”
Odessa read an excerpt from “The Bride from Dairapaska,” detailing Debbie’s first encounter with the steppes riders.
Yvonne Schuchart writes supernatural thrillers set in Porter’s Hollow, a rural section of the North Carolina mountains. Her first book is “In the Shadow of Porter’s Hollow”
Then Joel Burcat took a selfie with the crowd before his reading. He uses his experiences as an environmental investigator for the state in his thrillers. His first is “Drink to Every Beast.”
Shawn McLain followed with a reading from his read from his Grey Girl series of supernatural thrillers, including “The Haunting of Sterben House.”
Finally, Sandy Nork read from recently published novel, “Special Risk.” The first book in her series features Japanese-American insurance investigator Valerie Sloan, on the hunt for a rare electric guitar that people are willing to kill for.
