Cheeseplate with Agatha: “The Sittaford Mystery”
Last night’s cheese plate with Agatha was “The Sittaford Mystery” (2006). Some lovely moments, but boy did they try to jam ten pounds of plot in a five-pound episode. Timothy Dalton aged well since his Bond days, and he played the villain so wonderfully in “Hot Fuzz” that I was looking forward to this.
It appears that with what Teresa and I call “the modern Marples” that they do well expanding the short stories (like “The Blue Geranium”) but not so well shoehorning MM into a novel, like “The Secret of Chimneys.” This was not as incoherent as “Chimneys,” but still…
The cheeses: Lye Cross Farms Pepper Red (delightful!), Alouette Cranberry Apple Spice (good counterbalance to the peppery red), Aphrodite feta marinated in olive oil (which needed to be heated so it didn’t look like candle wax).
Next week, we’ll be taking a break from Agatha since Teresa needs to see her folks in Delaware, but we’ll be back!
