PennLive Local Author Showcase 2019

May was a busy month for the people of the Press (meaning Teresa and I). During the first three weeks, we showcased your works at four events. Usually, we have one event for the month.

This month, we should have issued a Peschel Press Tour May 2019 shirt with these dates:

May 2: PennLive Local Author Showcase, Mechanicsburg
May 3-5: Malice Domestic, Bethesda, Md.
May 11: Hershey Art and FlowerFest
May 18: Hershey CultureFest.

In June, we’ll have a three-day weekend where we’ll drive down to Baltimore for Scintillation of Scions, then drive back on Sunday so Odessa Moon can appear at Cupboard Maker Books for its sci-fi event. (The kids will be taking care of the house as well as our German shepherd guard dog and early-warning alarm cat.)

So rounding out the tour, let’s take a look at who we met at the PennLive Local Author Showcase.

Vera Cornish
Vera Cornish

The star of the show (for me) was talking to Vera Cornish, author of “Dare to Dream.” She’s a motivational speaker who radiates energy, positivity, and empathy. She showed me the website of The Urban Connection magazine with its well-designed mix of news and features. It’s wonderful to see new people on the scene bringing fresh ideas to the area.

Laura Souders
Laura Souders

Near our table was Laura Souders, author of “Organizing Her Life.” She offers to help organize your home or business, assist clients in relocating and staging homes for sale, and teaches workshops to pass along what she learns.

Megan Lavey-Heaton

My friend Megan Lavey-Heaton was also there selling her printed editions of the Namesake webcomic (which she writes), the Valor anthologies she edits, and her adorable plush dolls.

Marcus Schneck, John Rubisch, Nancy Eshelman

Meet Marcus Schneck, John Rubisch, and Nancy Eshelman. I met Nancy at the showcase last year (has it really been a year?) when she brought out her latest collection of Patriot-News columns “More Pieces of My Mind.” Marcus I knew only by name, having edited his wildlife columns, so it was good to put a face to the name. Rubisch was there with two books,
the lighthearted “Mill River Senior High,” and the touching, tragic mental health memoir “Christopher’s Story.”

Joe Farrell and Joe Farley

Also there were Joe Farrell and Joe Farley, two authors who have published through Sunbury Press a line of books on the notable graves of famous people from Pennsylvania, the Founding Fathers, New Yorkers, and other notables. Their co-writer on the Founding Fathers book, Lawrence Knorr, has more information about that series.
