December 2016 — Here is an informal schedule of future books coming from Peschel Press.
The 223B Casebook series
Sherlock Holmes was a cultural phenomenon in its time. He was so popular that the short stories were followed by parodies and pastiches. Writers took to Holmes, making fun of his deductive abilities and the fawning nature of Dr. Watson, creating new adventures, turning him into a comic-strip character, and making him a shill for quack treatments, safes, razor-blades and blotting paper.
The 223B Casebook series — named because these stories are “next door” to 221B — collects the majority of these stories for the first time. Culled from previously published sources, museum, private collections and newly discovered (thanks to ongoing digitization projects), Sherlockians will experience the spread of Holmes through the culture in a way never before seen. In addition, each book will contain a bonus story by series editor Bill Peschel, in which Mark Twain reveals his hidden connections to both Sherlock and Dr. Watson!
The five books have been published as of December 2016 “The Early Punch Parodies of Sherlock Holmes” and “Sherlock Holmes Victorian Parodies and Pastiches: 1888-1899,” “Sherlock Holmes Edwardian Parodies and Pastiches I: 1900-1904, “Sherlock Holmes Edwardian Parodies and Pastiches II: 1905-1909, and “Sherlock Holmes Great War Parodies and Pastiches II: 1915-1919.
Future volumes in the series will be:
Sherlock Holmes Great War Parodies and Pastiches I: 1910-1914
Volume 4 in the series, including works by Edmund L. Pearson, Maurice Baring, O.Henry, Stephen Leacock, and Carolyn Wells.
Sherlock Holmes Jazz Age Parodies and Pastiches I: 1920-1924
Volume 6 in the series, including works by Charles Hamilton, H.T. Webster, Herman Charles Bosman, Frederic Dorr Steele, and Dashiell Hammett.
